Get your home winter-ready with these simple tips

As the temperature drops, it’s time to bundle up, snuggle in and prepare your home for winter. Ensuring your home is cosy and efficient can make all the difference during the colder months.

How to get your home winter-ready

1. Clean your gutters
Blocked gutters can lead to water damage, or in some particularly chilly cases, a build-up of ice. Make sure to clean them out before the heavy rain starts!

2. Test your smoke detectors
Winter is a prime time for home fires. Test your smoke detectors and replace batteries to ensure they’re working properly.

3. Check for air gaps
Inspect your home for any air leaks around windows and doors. Try sealing any gaps with weatherstripping or caulk to keep the warm air in and the cold air out.

4. Clean your dryer vents
Lint build-up in dryer vents can be a fire hazard. Clean your dryer vents to improve your dryer’s day-to-day efficiency and overall safety.

5. Clean your heat pump filter
A clean heat pump filter ensures efficient operation. Make sure to clean or replace it regularly.

6. Get your gas appliances serviced
Regular maintenance of your gas appliances is essential, especially as we use them more going into winter. Schedule a service check with a registered gas fitter to ensure everything is in good working order.
